Mahatma Gandhi tried many different dieting methods, some of which were extreme, throughout his life. For five years he adhered to the diet that only consisted of raw, uncooked food. And sometimes he only ate fresh fruit and nothing else. Gandhi believed that people needed to control their appetites and sense of taste. So what lessons can people living in modern times learn from him?

One day, two Korean chefs were surprised to learn that Leonardo da Vinci was an accomplished chef according to a book. But the truth came out that the book was a work of forgery. Despite this, they began searching for any recipes that were attributed to Leonardo and after an exhaustive search, they discovered thousands of notes that held Leonardo’s grocery list. With this information, they began draw conclusions on what kinds of foods Leonardo da Vinci would have likely cooked with the ingredients he bought.

In this day and age, people need to eat tasty, healthy food to lead healthier lives. But there were great people who did not necessarily eat in order to satisfy their appetites.
Mahatma Gandhi and Leonardo da Vinci were such people. They considered a person’s appetite to be connected to greed and desire. Thus, they moderated their food intake, thinking it was a road to salvation. We reveal their diets and eating habits that brought them more fulfilling and enlightened lives.
